PROTECTING FUTURES
27 MARCH 2026
At BPM SFX, transparency is at the heart of everything we do, and our monthly articles are our way of giving those interested in our work a genuine and in-depth look at what we have been up to. Rather than simply showcasing the highlights, we want to offer a fuller picture of life at BPM SFX. We believe that the more people understand about us, the stronger the relationships we are able to build within our industry.
Each article is carefully structured around our slogan — What We Do — and covers three key areas that together reflect the full scope of our company. The first focuses on the innovation, creativity, and expertise, shining a light on the developments, technologies, and ideas that keep BPM SFX at the forefront of the industry. The second covers the people, culture, and community, celebrating the individuals and teams that make our company special. The third highlights the events, shows, and festivals we, showcasing the productions and performances where our work truly comes to life. This months coverage is as follows:
University of Derby
What - The innovation, creativity, and expertise
Work Experience
We - The people, culture, and community
Ben Hemsley
Do - The events, shows, and festivals
These articles are also shared on our LinkedIn page, where we provide the same updates to our wider network of industry professionals, clients, and followers. Whether you are a long-standing client, a fellow industry professional, or simply someone curious about the world of live events, we hope these updates give you a meaningful insight.
UNIVERSITY OF DERBY
In the early part of March, we had the pleasure of joining students from the Sound, Light, and Event Engineering course at the University of Derby for a 90-minute guest lecture. The session was led by Daniel Briggs, who delivered an in-depth presentation on the use of lasers within the live entertainment industry. The lecture covered a wide range of topics, combining technical knowledge with real-world applications, and was supported by practical demonstrations to give students a clear understanding of how lasers are used in live environments.
The aim of the session was not only to explore the technical aspects of laser systems, but also to provide a broader perspective on their creative and visual impact within live events. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with students who are beginning their journey in the industry, and we were proud to share our knowledge and experience with the next generation of professionals. We hope to see many of the students as they progress their careers.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Our focus on education continued throughout March as we welcomed a student from a local school for a week of work experience at our HQ. During their time with us, they were given hands-on exposure to a variety of SFX and laser equipment, allowing them to see first-hand how our technology operates in a live setting.
In addition to practical demonstrations, we provided insight into the day-to-day operations of BPM SFX, from warehouse preparation and equipment handling to the planning and coordination that takes place behind the scenes. Introducing young people to the live events industry is something we take great pride in, particularly as many may not yet be aware of the opportunities it offers. Being able to play a small part in inspiring future careers in this field is incredibly rewarding for our team.
BEN HEMSLEY
To round off March, we had the pleasure of joining Ben Hemsley for a homecoming show at Blackstone Street Warehouse in Liverpool. Preparations began at our HQ, with our team given creative input on how the lasers could be integrated into the set list to enhance key moments throughout the performance.
A focus for the show was creating a powerful and immersive atmosphere for a custom intro sequence, as well as incorporating laser diffraction effects throughout the set. The production featured a combination of SFX and lasers, including Magic FX Eco2 Jets alongside our in-house MFL and Typhoon AC-30 lasers. All elements were carefully programmed and executed to match the energy and flow of the performance. The result was a standout show with an incredible response from the audience, and we hope to work with Ben Hemsley again soon.
