Over the course of more than two decades, we have had the privilege of delivering effects for some of the most high-profile and demanding live events in the world. It is that experience — hard-earned across countless productions, tours, and festivals spanning every corner of the globe — that has allowed us to develop a process as thorough as it is efficient, one that ensures every event we are part of is planned, prepared, and executed to the very highest standard without exception. We take every single stage of the process seriously, from the earliest conversations with a client right through to the moment the last piece of equipment is loaded out and the final review has taken place. IDEATION
CONCEPTUALISING AND PLANNING
The Ideation stage is where every BPM SFX project truly begins — the point at which a client's vision starts to take shape and our team gets to work turning ambition into a plan. From the very first point of contact, our Project Managers take ownership of the client relationship, acting as a dedicated point of contact who will guide them through every stage of the process from start to finish. The initial conversation is focused on understanding exactly what the client is looking to achieve, with our full catalogue of effects shared to give them a comprehensive picture of everything BPM SFX has to offer and the possibilities available.
From there, our team works closely with the client to carefully tailor that catalogue down to the effects best suited to their event, before creating detailed drawings that bring the concept fully to life visually. Simultaneously, our office team coordinates inventory and arranges all necessary transportation for equipment and crew. Every decision made at this stage is guided by one central question — how do we maximise impact? It is a thorough and considered process handled entirely at our Oak Mill HQ, laying the solid foundation for everything that follows.
PREPARATION
PACKAGING AND DEPLOYING
The Preparation stage is where plans truly become action. Back at our Oak Mill HQ, our warehouse team gets to work ensuring that every single piece of equipment and every unit is fully functional, with thorough testing carefully carried out before anything is cleared for deployment on a show. No item ever leaves our warehouse without passing the rigorous checks that our team holds every piece of kit to, because we understand that the reliability and performance of our effects on the night begins long before we ever set foot inside a venue. It is a stage that demands precision, organisation, and uncompromising attention to detail from absolutely everyone involved.
Once testing is complete, equipment is packed and prepared for transport — via our own vans or hired lorry deliveries depending on the event. Everything arrives at the venue days in advance, giving the allocated crew time to begin load-in and take an overview of what will be required to run the effects for the event. Arriving early is a deliberate part of our process, ensuring our crew are fully familiar with the environment and every element of the setup is exactly where it needs to be long before the beginning of the event.
EXECUTION
RIGGING AND OPERATING
The Execution stage is where everything we have worked towards finally comes to life. All equipment is rigged at the venue and positioned precisely in accordance with the plans agreed during the Ideation stage, with every single placement carefully considered and entirely deliberate. Before anything is signed off, a thorough health and safety check is carried out across all equipment, followed by a full run through and rehearsal to ensure that every single element will perform exactly as intended when the moment arrives. Once cleared and all relevant personnel are fully satisfied, everything is locked in and firmly set for the event — and the excitement truly and genuinely begins.
With everything in place, our crew divides into allocated roles to ensure smooth operation from the first moment of the show to its conclusion. Each member knows their responsibilities and cues, and it is that clarity and organisation that allows our effects to land with the precision they deserve. This is the stage we work so hard to reach — where preparation becomes performance and our process culminates in the moments we live for. The effects go off, the crowd reacts, and the event is elevated into something truly special.
RESOLUTION
CLEARING AND EVALUATING
The Resolution stage begins the very moment the final effect has fired and the event draws to a close. Our crew immediately sets about the load-out process, carefully and thoroughly collecting every single piece of equipment and ensuring nothing is left behind at the venue. Everything is loaded back onto our vans or hired lorries and transported either directly to the next show or promptly returned to our Oak Mill HQ, where it is checked back in and prepared for whatever comes next. It is a stage that can be easy to overlook but one we approach with the same care and diligence as every other part of our process.
With equipment returned, our attention turns to the client. We liaise to ensure everything met their expectations, welcoming any feedback they share. That feedback, alongside our internal evaluation, feeds into self-reflection we consider essential to how BPM SFX continues to improve. We assess performance both as a company and as individuals, identifying what worked and where we can do better. It is this commitment to improvement that keeps our standards rising. With lessons noted, we take pride in what we have accomplished — and look ahead to the next event.
