PAST MILESTONES

FULL TIMELINE

Over 20 years, BPM SFX has reached significant milestones that have each played their part in shaping the company we are today. Built from the ground up, our journey has seen us grow from humble beginnings into a global powerhouse, achieving great steps along the way that we are enormously proud of. It is that journey — every milestone, every breakthrough, every leap forward — that has been the greatest contributor to who we are. Scroll below to explore the biggest developments in the BPM SFX story throughout the years.

FIRST STEPS

THE COMPANY IS ESTABLISHED AS “BPM SFX AND PRODUCTIONS”

BPM SFX began its journey under the name BPM SFX and Productions, initially supplying SFX for local clubs and parties from the most grounded of beginnings. Operating entirely out of a garage as a base and relying on a single car for transport, it was a humble start by any measure. But it was precisely that simplicity and raw determination that laid the foundations for everything that followed. What began as a small, local operation was already showing the clear hallmarks of something far greater — a drive, a passion, and an unwavering ambition that would go on to define the company for many decades to come.

LEVELLING UP

OUR FIRST OFFICE PREMISES IN BURNLEY IS SECURED

Securing our first office marked a significant step forward for BPM SFX — a simple but meaningful base from which our small team could begin operating with greater purpose and structure. It was here that the business truly started to take shape, building a growing reputation for reliability and quality that was turning heads across the industry. For the first time, clients from up and down the country were taking notice, and the company began working directly with music acts, broadening its reach in a way that felt like a real turning point. The full scope of what BPM SFX could become was starting to emerge.

BIGGER STAGES

ARENA TOURS, STADIUM TOURS, AND FESTIVALS BEGIN

The next chapter saw BPM SFX take a significant leap forward, expanding into arena tours, stadium shows, and festivals as clients began to truly appreciate what was possible when working with us. Landing work with some of the biggest acts touring the UK and the most iconic festivals in the country was a major step up — one that raised the bar for everything we did. These areas remain at the very core of what we do today, and it is here where some of our strongest and most valued relationships were forged. The reputation we were building at home was also beginning to attract attention from further afield.

WORLD DOMINANCE

WE REACH GLOBAL STATUS COVERING SIX CONTINENTS

Once the momentum began to build, it showed absolutely no signs of slowing down. Shortly after establishing ourselves as a renowned name in the UK, BPM SFX started supplying effects on a truly global scale, and before long our work had taken us across six different continents — a remarkable achievement that very few could have predicted from those early garage days. Our status within the industry had reached an all-time high, and we were absolutely determined to capitalise on everything we had worked so hard to build. The world was now our stage, and BPM SFX was ready to make its mark on every corner of it.

MARKET EXPANSION

THE WIDER LIVE EVENTS SECTOR IS EXPLORED

The opportunities presenting themselves made one thing clear — BPM SFX had the potential to reach far beyond music. With our sights set on the wider live events industry, it wasn't long before we were supplying effects across sporting events, television productions, gaming, corporate shows, and more. Any event with a need for effects was an event we wanted to be a part of, and we pursued that with great ambition. All of this came in addition to the strong and valued relationships already built with our musical acts and festival clients, cementing our position as a truly versatile and wide-reaching company.

HQ RELOCATION

OUR DEMAND REQUIRES LARGER OPERATING FACILITIES

By this point, the growing scope of BPM SFX had well and truly outgrown what our existing office could offer. The decision was made to take a bold and exciting step forward — purchasing Oak Mill in Dunnockshaw and undertaking a full renovation to create a facility built specifically for the demands of our ever-growing operation. The building was ideal in every sense, offering the space and versatility our various needs required whilst perfectly embodying the character of the company. Since its completion, Oak Mill HQ has sat firmly at the heart of everything BPM SFX does, and it remains so to this day.

NUMBER ONE

TAKING HOME OUR FIRST OF SIX TPI MAGAZINE AWARDS

A true marker of how far we had come arrived when BPM SFX secured the very first TPi Award for Favourite SFX Company — a moment that validated our journey and cemented our presence as one of the most prestigious effects suppliers in the industry. It was an honour to be recognised for the hard work and dedication that had brought us to that point, and beating our competitors to claim the inaugural award made it all the more special. It would not be the last time. Five further consecutive wins followed, marking a dominant era that firmly established BPM SFX as one of the greatest suppliers in live events.

STAFF GROWTH

WE EMPLOY ACROSS SEVEN SKILLED DEPARTMENTS

With many years of experience behind us and a firmly established presence in the live events industry, our focus turned inward. Advancing our in-house production became a key priority, leading to a restructuring of our staff into seven dedicated departments, each playing a crucial role in both delivering for our clients and upholding the wider business side of the company. This reorganisation was not simply an operational decision — it was a foundational one, creating the structure needed to support the scale of our ambitions and ensure every aspect of what we do is carried out to the very highest standard.

SWIFTLY ADAPTING

THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN SHIFTS THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY

Like the rest of the world, BPM SFX was not immune to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With festivals, tours, and live events brought to a standstill under new restrictions, it was an undeniable bump in the road for the entire industry. However, rather than standing still, we used the time as an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger. Staff training and in-house production were prioritised in accordance with the safety guidelines in place, while televised events provided an avenue to keep working within the restrictions. When the world reopened, BPM SFX was ready and we hit the ground running.

JOINING FORCES

OUR ACQUISITION OF AC LASERS AND SFX IS COMPLETE

One of the most significant developments in the BPM SFX story came with the acquisition of AC Lasers and SFX, based in the Midlands. This was a landmark moment for the company, opening doors into the engineering side of effects production and bringing with it a wealth of laser expertise that gave us a powerful and distinctive edge over our competitors. The addition of AC Lasers and SFX expanded our capabilities considerably, allowing us to offer clients a broader and more technically advanced range of services than ever before, further reinforcing our already strong position at the very top of the industry.

FINANCIAL EXPANSION

WE SECURE A FUNDING PACKAGE FROM ALICA BANK

To take BPM SFX to a whole new level, we secured funding from Alica Bank — a truly defining moment in our story that has had far-reaching implications both for where we are today and where we are headed. The investment has allowed us to develop our facilities, bring new staff on board, and offer innovative and revolutionary effects solutions that push the boundaries of what we can deliver. The applications of this financial backing have been endless, accelerating our growth in ways that have truly transformed the company and cemented our standing as a genuine powerhouse within the live events industry.
